The Week of Death

There is no harder week in marathon training than this week for me. It is the week I circle before I take one step in training. This week I run a total of 40 miles. This week involves the following runs:
  • Monday - 5 miles
  • Tuesday - 10 miles
  • Wednesday - 5 miles
  • Friday - 20 miles
The 20 mile run will likely last 3 hours and 20 minutes. It is my longest run of training. Most runners hit what is known as "the wall" at around mile 18 although I tend to run face first into this wall much sooner. This is a very important run to remind me what the wall feels like and hopefully give me a little practice at running through it. A successful run will give me great confidence that a 3rd marathon finish is possible. Anything less than completing the run will leave me with unanswered questions and discouragement up until the marathon.

To date I have run 332 miles and spent over 53 hours on the road since August 1. I just purchased some new marathon shoes as the miles have taken a toll. Can you tell which ones are the new ones?

Thanks to all of my generous sponsors, we have raised almost $1,100 for St. Jude with almost a month left to go. Thanks for following along during this process and helping be a part of a great cause.

You are an inspiration. Since I know the gene pool you come from, I know this doesn't come easily. We are proud of you and love you. Love, Mom
